It is very sad for me to watch the 10'o'clock news on television. I can almost predict there is another homicide the news anchor wants to tell us about. Another bothering fact of the matter is that shooter statistically has a 25% chance of getting convicted, once caught. According to statistics gathered by the Philadelphia inquirer, Philadelphia has the lowest felony conviction rate in the entire country. A pair of hoodlums in North Philadelphia were at one time charged with a combined total of 9 gun crimes within 3 years. No intimidating sentence was placed on them, and later a 10 year old boy was shot in a crossfire by one of the men previously charged with gun crimes. How sad is it that it had to come down to the killing of a 10 year old to take much needed action of a maximum penalty? Most would think that maybe after the 4th or 5th gun crime the police would put the hammer on these gangsters before someone gets shot. Unfortunately a 10 year-old did, but his death could have been avoided.
When watching the 10'o' cock news, the headlines shouldn't be hypothetically "deadly shooting in North Philly", it should be "court injustice homicide". Are we actually going to let a man by the name of Clinton Robinson get away with voluntary manslaugther. He pleaded guilty, and the nice ole' court sentenced him to only 2-5 years of prison after he was charged with murder and assault! Robinson was even quoted on the matter "basically, I beat it", meaning he beat the court or "the system". The quote Robinson stated makes a mockery of the Philadelphia justice system.
What a shame it is that hoodlums are killing left and right, but more so, what a shame it is that these hoodlums feel like they can manipulate our courts to their advantage, and eventually getting back to the streets quicker to wreak more havoc and pandemonium. Soft serve justice cannot be the way to continue Philadelphia's patriotic legacy. Right now the court system is very much like parents who let their kids do everything without many ties or restrictions. There must be a sense of order, because if nothing is done quickly the whole city will be a "free for all" for gangsters and hoodlums. There is, for some reason, too much brotherly love for these criminals with a crime speckled history.
